The annual conference of the Société Suisse d’Allergologie et Immunologie (SSAI), kicked-off this morning, 5 September 2019 at Palazzo dei Congressi Lugano. The conference is organised by the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB, affiliated to USI), in cooperation with STAI, the association of allergologists and clinical immunologists of Ticino.
The topic of this year's congress is "Immunomodulation: from basic to clinical aspects". During the 4 plenary sessions and the 12 workshops – some organised in collaboration with the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV), the Swiss Society of Aerobiology (SSA) and the Société Française d'Immunologie (SFI) – leading Swiss and international researchers will discuss the topics of innate immunity, inflammation and cancer, immunodeficiency and infectious diseases, as well as biological drugs such as new therapies for immune enhancement or suppression.
The Viral Immunity Symposium will follow the congress, and it will be held on 6 September at USI, in the Lugano campus Auditorium. The Symposium will focus on the latest developments in the field of viral infection control.
During the convention, the new regulations of the ACTERIA Prize will also be announced. From 2020 the prestigious prize supported FONDATION ACTERIA, assigned to researchers in immunology and allergology active in Europe, will be awarded annually instead of every three years. The FONDATION ACTERIA will allocate 60,000 Euros annually for cash prizes and funding of up to 400,000 Euros to support three-year research projects.
