Università della Svizzera italiana is pleased to announce the inaugural lecture by Prof. Thomas Greuter of the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences, focusing on a topic of increasing clinical importance: eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). The encounter will be held on Monday, 10 March 2025, at 6 pm in the East Campus Lugano Aula polivalente.
EoE is the primary cause of dysphagia in young adults, with an estimated prevalence of 1 in 700 people. It is a chronic inflammation of the oesophagus caused by food allergens and characterised by a Th2-type immune response. Although topical steroids are an effective treatment option, a significant percentage of patients develop refractory forms and stenosis.
During the lecture, Prof Greuter will explore the latest advances in understanding the disease's pathogenesis and the emerging therapeutic prospects. Special attention will be given to early identification of inflammation and fibrosis, made possible by new in vitro models, which could lead to innovative therapies that might alter the disease's course.
The lecture will be held in English.
After the presentation, there will be time for audience discussion and questions, providing an opportunity to explore the covered topics further.
Afterwards, all participants are invited to a welcome aperitif.
The event is open to the USI community and the general public upon registration by 3 March 2025 at the following link.
