Pietro Majno-Hurst, M.D., is appointed Professor at USI and Chief physician at the EOC

The Board of the Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale (EOC) and the University Council of Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) have appointed Pietro Majno-Hurst, M.D., specialist in general and visceral surgery, Chief physician and Head of surgery at the Regional Hospital of Lugano (ORL) and, respectively, Full professor of Surgery at the USI Faculty of Biomedical Sciences, Institute of Medicine. This is the first appointment by public competition jointly organised by USI and EOC.

Prof. Majno-Hurst will take on his new functions from next year, replacing the current Head of surgery Prof. Raffaele Rosso, M.D. The Board of EOC expresses its gratitude towards Prof. Rosso for his important contribution to the organisation and development of surgery at the ORL and the EOC, allowing also for the EOC to obtain highly specialized medical mandates.

Prof. Majno-Hurst will lead the Department of surgery at the ORL at a particularly important time for both the EOC and USI. For its part, the EOC intends to take on a more prominent role in surgery in Switzerland and to contribute to the development of the new USI Master in Medicine. The clinical and academic experience acquired at the University Hospital in Geneva will enable Prof. Majno-Hurst to make his contribution in both areas.
