The recent decision of the Swiss Clinical Trial Organisation (SCTO), the Swiss academic organisation for clinical research, to include the Clinical Trial Unit of the Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale (CTU-EOC) among its ordinary members is an important recognition, also in view of the Master in Human Medicine that the USI Faculty of Biomedical Sciences will inaugurate in 2020. The EOC will be the main reference hospital for the clinical training of the USI Master students.

Hitherto an associate member, the integration of the EOC into the SCTO occurs six years after the creation of the Clinical Trial Unit, whose aim is to offer researchers the required services and expertise to develop highly competitive research projects with the best national and international centres and institutes. Thanks to this recognition, the EOC becomes part of the academic organization of which the five university hospitals, the Cantonal Hospital of St. Gallen, the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences, and the College of Deans - are members, and significantly strengthens the participation of the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland in the national context of clinical research.
