Finding ways to combine STEM and the humanities will be crucial to respond to the global challenges of the 21st century. We will need holistic thinkers with a humanistic background as well as experts with vertical technical knowledge: how are companies organized and how will they cope to respond to these new needs? What will the new professional profiles be and what skills should they have? These topics will be discussed at the opening roundtable of the fifth Long Night of Careers, on November 14, 2019 at the Lugano campus, in parallel with 9 other universities throughout Switzerland.

After the welcome addresses delivered by the Rector of USI Boas Erez and the Mayor of Lugano Marco Borradori, the panel “Making the best out of graduates in STEM and Humanities. The viewpoint of companies” will begin (at 6PM in room A-21, Red building), featuring:

  • Marzio Grassi, Director Regione Ticino, Credit Suisse
  • Luciano Monga, Audit Partner, Deloitte
  • Vittoria Gozzi, CEO Wylab, Duferco Group
  • Michel Gagnon, Director, LAC
  • Stefano Santinelli, CEO at localsearch and delegate CEO for Ticino at Swisscom
  • Lorenzo Cantoni, Pro-Rector for Education and Students' experience, USI (moderator).

The Long Night of Careers is an initiative aimed at students and graduates of universities in Switzerland, but also at companies, to encourage the interaction between the academic and business contexts, the exchange of ideas and ideas, and a better understanding of the workplace and professions in general. This commitment has seen USI take part in a number of initiatives, including - for the past few months - the creation of the Master's Executive Advisory Boards, which include the directors of the USI Master's programmes and professionals and business representatives. Through the activities of these Boards, each Master's programme - USI offers over twenty of them - intends to further consolidate interactions with the business world, to encourage the continuous and structured development and improvement of the university's training programmes.

Over 65 businesses and 150 professionals will attend this year's Long Night of Careers, at an event where students and graduates can take part in many activities with companies: individual meetings with professionals, reviews of CVs performed by human resources experts, seminars and sessions on subjects career and equal opportunities, application procedures, workshops that illustrate the opportunities offered by digital transformation, family businesses and so-called meta-sectors, or even workshops on how to creat your own start-up.
