A Nobel laureate to discuss tomorrow's medicines

From 12 to 14 September, USI hosted a major scientific conference on G-Protein Coupled Receptors (GPCRs). These proteins are the target of about 35 per cent of drugs on the market. Internationally leading scientists, including the Nobel laureate in Chemistry, Prof. Brian Kobilka, participated in the event.
Experts presented the latest advances in structural biology, enabling a greater understanding of the mechanism of action of GPCRs. The results presented will significantly impact the design of future drugs, considering the great pharmacological relevance of this family of proteins.
The event was organised by Prof. Vittorio Limongelli and Dr Paolo Conflitti, Euler Institute and Faculty of Biomedical Sciences at USI, together with Prof. Edward Lyman (University of Delaware) and Prof. Mark Sansom (University of Oxford), with crucial financial support from the Ticino pharmaceutical company Sintetica, the Swiss Center for Scientific Computing (CSCS), the pharmaceutical company Novartis, the Centre Européen de Calcul Atomique et Moléculaire (CECAM), the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and USI.
