The degree programme in Human Medicine at USI has been formally accredited in accordance with the Higher Education Act (HEdA) and the Medical Professions Act (LPMed). The accreditation was decided at the meeting of the Swiss Accreditation Council on 24 March 2023 and will be valid until 2030. Since it is a new faculty, accreditation is awarded at the end of the first cycle of studies.

Prof. Giovanni Pedrazzini, Dean of the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences at USI, is delighted with this further confirmation of the quality of the programme: "We already knew that the USI Master's programme in Medicine is very well conceived overall, rigorously structured and implemented, and that it is highly appreciated by the students who attend it. We receive this important attestation today, as we prepare to take our first federal exams, as further proof of the good work done so far by both professors and staff."

Satisfaction with this result was also expressed by EOC General Director, Glauco Martinetti: “It is an important acknowledgment that rewards one of our university training projects through the accreditation of the Master of Medicine. A step that increasingly qualifies the synergy between University and Hospital by looking to the future, working for a future university hospital in Italian-speaking Switzerland". Martinetti adds: “Today I would like to thank all those who have worked and are dedicated every day to the growth of this new faculty. This accreditation is one of the rewards for their daily commitment”.

The Swiss Accreditation Council is the federal and cantonal body for accreditation and quality assurance in the Swiss university sector. It is therefore the competent institution for accreditation procedures within the meaning of the HEdA, both for institutional accreditation and for programme accreditation.
