Prof. Andrea Alimonti and his team have been awarded the SNSF Advanced Grant 2022, a prestigious funding designed to support innovative, high-risk research in Switzerland.

Due to Switzerland's status as a non-associated third country within the Horizon Europe program, the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), on behalf of the federal government, launched the SNSF Advanced Grants 2022 funding initiative. This funding program is designed for researchers who intended to apply for an ERC Advanced Grant, which is conceived to provide support to established research leaders in terms of originality and significance of their contributions and who have a proven track record of exceptional research achievements within the past 10 years.

Prof. Alimonti‘s research, entitled “Microbiota regulation of prostate cancer growth and metastatic dissemination” has been elected among more than 90 applications, of which 31 in the Life Sciences field.
Only two research projects, including Alimonti's, have been selected in the field of Cancer.

The research project focuses on the identification of intratumoral bacteria that can either promote or contrasts prostate cancer development and on the  identification of bacterial-derived anti-cancer compounds, using an innovative  drug discovery pipeline

The grant will support the project for 5 years.
